Gilles Peterson Worldwide – Saul Williams Interview 14 April 1999 [REMASTERED]

Scroll down to content

Gilles Peterson was a huge influence on me in the late 80s, on my first trips to London. He’d educate my teenage ears, playing what was amusingly known at the time as Rare Groove, at Dingwalls or The Wag [alongside the mighty Patrick Forge], or one of the other insanely good club nights in London.

Described as a ‘Words & Music Special/ with music poetry and chat’ the Saul Williams intervew on this is the highlight for anyone that ‘stays home and plays music and listens to music’ [Especially Rap and Hip-Hop]. Saul drops super prescient knowledge. There is some great music [aka ‘Bad arse tunes’ !] from the period too. Tracklist below…

If anyone can assist with tracklists, playlists or archives of old Worldwide shows [specifically from 1998 – 2005 as I have a large archive, see below], please dont hesitate to get in touch –

Neither the BBC Genome option nor is the old BBC link cover that period. Due to time constraints, these tapes are gathering dust but even if I did have more time to go through them all, I simply dont have enough time to sift through every [120 minute tape, therefore, the FULL broadcasts] just to find a Gang Starr, Roots, Madlib, Roots Manuva, Questlove or Jazzy Jeff guest spot. Im sure there’s someone out there that has this kind of info/ or an XLS of show lists/ guests…

HUGE shouts and much love to Alex Thompson, Jos and Micky Fuck !!
