Gilles Peterson Worldwide – Saul Williams Interview 14 April 1999 [REMASTERED]

Gilles Peterson was a huge influence on me in the mid 80s, on my first trips to London. He’d educate my teenage Irish ears, playing what was known at the time as Rare Groove. He’d play at Dingwalls in Camden or The Wag in Soho [alongside the mighty Patrick Forge] or one of the other insanely influential club nights in the capital.

By the late 80s, I’d hear him on the schedules of BBC Nite FM, alongside Gary Crowley & Jeff Young.

Described as a ‘Words & Music Special/ with music poetry and chat’, the Saul Williams interview on this is the highlight. Saul drops super prescient knowledge, and naturally there is some great music from the period too.

If anyone has a jones for all this and wants to make an offer on owning the entire lot [over 100 cassettes of Worldwide history] again, don’t hesitate to get in touch – craig@randomrapradio.com

Alternatively, if anyone can assist with tracklists, playlists or archives of old Worldwide shows [specifically from 1998 – 2005 as it is a colossal archive, see below], please don’t hesitate to get in touch – craig@randomrapradio.com

Neither the BBC Genome option nor the old BBC links cover that period and due to time constraints, these tapes are gathering dust. Even if I did have more time to go through them all, I simply don’t have enough time to sift through every [120 minute tape, EVERY SINGLE TAPE FEATURES THE FULL BROADCASTS] just to find a Gang Starr, Roots, Madlib, Roots Manuva, Questlove or Jazzy Jeff guest spot. I’m sure there’s someone out there that has this kind of info/ or an XLS of show lists/ guests…

HUGE shouts and much love to Alex Thompson, Jos and Micky !!
