RRR returns with some representative regional English Rap radio, this time from Manchester. There is something unique about the energy of presenter Stu Allan and the choice of good music on these parochial recordings. I only have copies of Bus Diss because I answered an ad in the Connections page of Hip-Hop Connection, I swapped tapes with what was essentially a pen pal in Tameside by the name of Lyrical [never knew her real name but she was cool as f**k and a top choice graffiti writer]. Ah, pen pals…..No ? Ask yer Ma and Da !
I haven’t shared many of my Bus Diss shows and this is the first of a bundle of bits over the next few weeks. It’s one of many that featured legendary UK pioneer DJ Chad Jackson as a studio guest. This time he’s fresh from creating his iconic 20 minute long Best of 87 Hip-Hop Mix. Stu informs us that this is the World Premiere !
According to his Soundcloud page, after winning the World Mixing Championships in March that year, Chad created the mix for the Disco Mix Club at their Slough Headquarters in December 1987, using a Revox B99 reel to reel recorder, Technics SL1200s, a standard DJ Mixer, 1/2 inch tape, reams of editing tape, loads of razor blades and lots of vinyl.
Propers to Ben Hamilton, Jon Viola, Mr Spin & System Street Art for the flyer. And if anyone knows where Lyrical [originally from Ashton Under Lynne in Tameside] is these days, ask her to get in touch.
